A short walk from Sutton Bank to one of the best views in Yorkshire, returning via the shores of Gormire Lake

One of the best views in Yorkshire from the top of Sutton Bank toking across Whitestone Cliff and Gormire Lake

Walk overview:

Distance: 2.5 miles
Time: 1.5-2 hours with stops
Difficulty: Moderate. Whilst relatively short and the start of the walk being very easy - when you go down towards Gormire Lake and back out of it - it can be fairly steep - but nothing too hard (imagine walking up stairs for 10 minutes :-)

A short 2.5 mile walk to take in the best view Sutton Bank has to offer

This is one of the shortest posts I'll make as I've already blogged about a similar, but longer walking route from Sutton Bank which takes in most of this route but includes the White Horse too - which can be found here

This route though is one I revisit time and again as it's fairly short - but it takes in my best view in Yorkshire and then decends through woodland to the tranquil Gormire Lake, and then its a fairly steep walk back up to the Sutton bank Visitor centre. I've done it in just over an an hour but give yourself a couple of hours to admire the views (especially my favourite Yorkshire view - which is at the tip of the blue arrow on the map below) - and then take a stop at Gormire Lake as its quite sheltered and peaceful here even on the windiest of days)

This short 2.5 mile walk starts at the car park at Sutton Bank visit centre (where there is paid parking, toilets and a cafe). You then go anti-clockwise along the Cleveland Way initially. As you start the walk quite high-up the views are cracking straightaway - but my favourite view is at the tip of the blue arrow on the map) There's a bench here - so you can't really miss it. After this spot walk about 50m and you come off the Cleveland Way and descend into the woodland below and then onto Gormire Lake. The paths in the wood can be boggy sometimes so good walking boots are a must. After a pit-stop at Gormire -  you then head back up towards Sutton Bank Visitor Centre via Garbutt wood and the path is fairly steep here - so you might need a few breathers :-)

Here you can see that the route starts pretty high - and then dips into Gormire Lake and then you have a fairly steep walk back out of it. It's a short walk though so don't let that put you off :-)
