Linhope Spout waterfall walk and wild swimming in Northumberland

The idyllic Linhope Spout Waterfall in Northumberland

Linhope Spout waterfall walk in Northumberland

Linhope Spout is a popular waterfall walk in the Ingram Valley in Northumberland that is a perfect walk for families of all ages. Linhope Spout itself is a great little picnic spot and a good place for a bit of wild swimming too if you are into that sort of thing. We completed this walk in a big family group. the eldest was 72 and we also had 3 kids with us, the youngest being 4 and it was no problem for them.

Linhope Spout waterfall walk overview:

Linhope Spout walk distance: 1.6 miles (one way) (3.2 miles there & back)
Walk time: 45min - 1 hour to get to Linhope spout from Hartside.
Walk difficulty: Easy

Linhope Spout waterfall walk map route:

The shortest and quickest way to walk to Linhope Spout is shown on the above map route. The closest you can park the car is on the roadside just before you get to Hartside as the road from there to the small village of Linhope is a private road. Unless you want a much longer walk - then the easiest and quickest walk is to simply walk back the way you came. Click the button below to view the full interactive map route

If you don't have a Phone Map App - I really recommend the one by Ordnance Survey. You can download route maps to your phone such as this one and the app will show you exactly where you are on the route even when you have no signal - so no more taking a wrong turn :-)

Linhope Spout walk photos:

Once you park along the roadside just before you get to Hartside - you walk along the private road from Hartside to Linhope Village.

The small little village of Linhope, note you cannot drive here, you have to leave the car at Hartside.

The path is clearly marked from Linhope Village to Linhope Spout and is generally easy going

Just follow the well defined path and the signs and you can't go wrong!

Linhope Spout is in amongst the tree's and the path will take you straight to it!

What a cracking little waterfall it is. There is plenty of grassy space around it to have a picnic too.

There's a bit of a drop into the pool below from the top!

Wild swimming at Linhope Spout:

Linhope Spout is a popular spot for wild swimming.! It's 5m deep and lot's of people come here on warm sunny days to swim around and even jump into the plunge pool as you can see from the youtube video below!

I hope that gives you a bit of useful info on planning your walk to Linhope Spout!

Cold Water Swimming Health Benefits

USEFUL ITEMS TO MAKE YOUR WILD SWIMMING EXPERIENCE MORE ENJOYABLE:

I've been wild swimming a number of years now - so I've built up a lot of tolerance to the cold. However in the colder months - the hands and feet can feel the cold a bit more, so neoprene gloves/boots come in very useful. The boots also help when accessing rocky wild swimming pools, such as the above infinity pool . A towel robe is also a very handy thing to keep warm after a swim and makes changing much easier. I can really recommend the products below to help you on any wild swim:
